What your attorney confirms before funding

The attorney response is a separate step in your application. Here is what to clarify with the office handling your case.

The short answer

Before Cherokee issues funding, your attorney must confirm your claim and acknowledge the funding. Ask who in the office is handling the request and what information is still needed.

Tell the office about your application

Let your attorney know you have asked Cherokee for a funding review. Give the funding team the current name and contact details of the office handling your claim.

Ask which person should receive questions about your case. If a request has gone unanswered, confirm the contact details with both the office and the funding team.

Separate case confirmation from legal advice

Cherokee needs information from your attorney to review the claim. Your attorney also acknowledges the funding before money is issued. Applying yourself does not remove the need for that involvement.

That funding review does not transfer control of your case. Decisions about the claim and any settlement remain with you and your attorney.

Discuss the written offer together

If you receive an offer, bring the written terms to your attorney. Ask how its payoff would affect what remains from a recovery after other obligations are paid.

Ask about the funded amount, charges and how the payoff changes over time. If your attorney raises a concern, identify the specific term and ask for an explanation before signing.

If the review is waiting on a response

Ask the team which information or acknowledgment is outstanding. Then check with the person handling the request at your attorney's office. Do not assume that sending an application means every required step is complete.

If your representation changes, share the new contact details and ask what is needed to continue the review. Keep your attorney informed about any written offer you are considering.

Prepare the conversation with your attorney

  • Explain the expense you need to cover and when it is due.
  • Have the proposed amount and written terms available.
  • Ask how funding would fit alongside other obligations at settlement.
  • Confirm who in the office should respond to the funding review.

Common questions

Can I complete Cherokee funding without an attorney?

No. An attorney must represent you, confirm the claim and acknowledge the funding before money is issued. If you do not have representation, arrange it before applying.

Does funding give Cherokee control of my settlement?

No. Cherokee does not direct your claim or its settlement. Your legal decisions remain with you and your attorney.

What if the attorney's contact details change?

Give the funding team the current office contact information. Ask which case information or acknowledgment is still needed so the request goes to the person handling it.
